How do you deal with ingrown hairs when waxing?

Yes I'm a guy asking this question and theres a reason for that and no I'm not gay.

I usually wax my legs once a year and I've had a few problems with ingrown hairs. My legs are all good again but before I get them waxed how do I deal with the future ingrown hair problem?

Laser hair removal is great but it costs 20x more than waxing!!!

I agree with the other answerer. Exfoliate using a product or just an exfoliating sponge or mits. If you exfoliate throughly before waxing and then AFTER the initial skin irritation has died down following the waxing, that should work.

Use a scrub to exfoliate after your wax (I like St. Ives Apricot scrub). Then use a moisturizer like Finipril or Tender Skin (the salon where you get waxed should have these or something similar, mine even gives free samples).

Exfoliating after really helps keep the pores open and helps keep the hairs from growing oddly or getting caught under one of the top layers of skin.
