My 1 year old has orange patches on his scalp that is ingrown hair in the patches any idea the cause

The only thing I can think of is a bad case of cradle cap. Try putting baby oil on his head to loosen it. Then wash it in a dandruff shampoo. If that doesn't help, then I would call his doc and ask them what they think. It doesn't sound like an emergency thing so i would try the oil and shapoo first. Good Luck.

Do you think it could be cradle cap? All of my kids have had it. My daughter had it until she was 3 or 4. If you can scratch it off, I would bet it is cradle cap. I have heard you can Sea Breeze on it. I always just take a soft baby brush and use baby shampoo and scrub on it. Usually, it will get rid of it pretty fast.

I agree with *MommyofThree* it sounds like cradle cap. oil and baby shampoo should take care of it.

This is just a different form of cradle cap, there are sweat glands developing and the dirt gets in there causing it to accumulate, this may happen for a few months. My son had the same thing and this is what the doc told me, early development of sweat glands can cause a different form of cradle cap, but the cure is the same. Massage baby oil on the head until it softens and then gently use a comb to pull the stuff off his head. Washing his hair thoroughly after.

My sister had this same problem. They now make a shampoo that helps loosen the cradle cap. Otherwise, the old fashioned way of baby oil and a comb will do the trick.

Sounds like a case of cradle cap. Soften it with baby lotion or baby oil loosen it with baby comb and/or baby brush and wash afterwords..to prevent cradle cap do not be afraid to apply some pressure while washing baby's hair ( true there are soft spots but normal scrubbing is not going to do any damage) and rinse thoroughly. If this isn't working contact his Ped.
